OpenEvidence aggregates peer-reviewed medical research and clinical guidelines into a single search interface. You type a clinical question, and the platform returns a synthesized answer with inline citations linking back to the original studies in PubMed, NEJM, JAMA, Lancet, and other sources. Instead of scrolling through abstracts and evaluating studies yourself, you get a concise summary of what the evidence says, where it comes from, and where there is consensus or disagreement.

The platform also includes Visits, an ambient documentation feature that records and transcribes patient encounters to generate clinical notes. Some institutions, like Cedars-Sinai, have integrated OpenEvidence directly into their EHR so clinicians can pull evidence relevant to a specific patient chart.

Access requires verification of medical credentials such as an NPI number. The core platform is free for U.S. healthcare professionals, supported by advertising from pharmaceutical and medical device companies. OpenEvidence was founded in 2021 and is backed by Sequoia and Google.
