CanLII Search+ is a generative AI layer on top of the Canadian Legal Information Institute’s existing database. It takes your question, whether phrased in everyday language or legal terminology, and translates it into a structured query that pulls from case law, legislation, and commentary across Canadian jurisdictions.

The tool evaluates the top 25 results for each query and provides contextual analysis with relevance scoring. You can filter by jurisdiction, time period, and document type to narrow things down further. All results link back to the original CanLII documents, which helps reduce the hallucination problem that plagues other AI legal tools.

Access requires a free myCanLII account. There are daily limits of 4 analyses and 10 search query generations, which may change over time. It launched in March 2026 and is available to anyone, not just legal professionals.
